The Company

Our client is a middle-market, PE-backed traffic control services company with approximately $86M in revenue. The company primarily provides traffic control services, which include flagging, lane closures, detours for worksites, traffic planning, and equipment rental services. The company has developed entrenched customer relationships and a leading market position in its region. The private equity backers, specialized in the lower- and middle-market, invested in the company in 2020 and have helped drive further growth through M&A, organic growth, and support for its excellent management team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the ideal candidate will operate with integrity, a sense of urgency, and a high degree of accountability. The CFO will support the CEO in all financial and operational initiatives but will be primarily responsible for: (i) working with the CEO to successfully integrate the most recent acquisition, (ii) reporting financials in a timely fashion and in accordance with GAAP, (iii) overseeing all operational accounting (treasury management, A/P, A/R, payroll, insurance, and benefits) and IT, (iv) maintaining external vendor relationships related to the finance function (e.g., auditors, insurance vendors), and (v) providing thoughtful operational analysis.  The CFO will act as a strategic financial partner to the CEO to help grow the Company profitably. 

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Work with the CEO to achieve $125+ million of revenues (average CAGR of ~10%) through organic growth and $20 million of EBITDA by 2025
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Work with the management team to deliver meaningful and timely reporting and financial analysis
  • Own accounting, treasury management, and IT function overseeing all processes and ensuring that they are efficient and effective
  • Support the President in communications with the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders
  • Manage all risk areas (insurance, legal, union) working with the President
  • Build topnotch finance and IT function: integrity, accountability, sense of urgency
  • Lead post-merger integration with the President

Requirements and Desirable Skills
 
  • Extensive background in financial leadership, operational management, system implementation, and strategic growth with the ability to act as a forward-thinking business partner
  • Ability to work with and innovate on an ERP system with the intention of capturing complex data and metrics to better account
  • Experience financial and operational components aspects of post-merger integration and other sides of the M&A lifecycle is strongly preferred
  • Highly effective analytical skills balanced with strong project management skills - the ability to work through deep financial modeling scenarios translated up to inform strategic business decision making
  • Collaborative communication skills and EQ - the ability to influence without direct authority, gain trust, manage interpersonal dynamics, and drive constructive partnerships up and down the internal and external hierarchies
  • Results focus: an action-oriented self-starter who gets things done under pressure and has a strong operational mindset
  • Strong strategic mindset formed through experience with successful PE exits is preferred

Location

This company has two locations just south and east of the SF Bay Area, and a regular on-site presence will be expected.
