Company Background

Our client is a New York-based investment adviser providing alternative investment solutions to long-duration capital investors. They seek to construct a diversified and opportunistic portfolio, that spans a wide set of strategy, sector, geography, and return profiles.

The Position

Working as a member of the investment team, the Associate will be involved in all aspects of private equity fund investments and co-investments, including sourcing, due diligence, execution and investment monitoring. This role has a strong career path and members of the team have been with the team for well over a decade.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Play an active role in investment underwriting and execution from start to finish. Coordinate all aspects of execution and deal closing process with internal teams
  • Prepare quantitative analysis of investment track records (including attribution analysis, valuations, return and sensitivity analyses)
  • Review of prospective fund diligence materials including marketing presentations, private placement memorandums, and subscription legal documentation
  • Build and maintain models for investment program cash flow projections, fund cash flow and return analysis
  • Utilize primary research skills and critical review of due diligence (market, financial, legal, commercial, etc.) materials to form well-developed investment recommendations
  • Monitor and report on fund/portfolio performance and draft investor communications, including periodic updates on fund/portfolio performance and co-investments quarterly valuation reports
  • Assist with special projects (client asset allocation, business development, developing views about key market trends, etc.) on an as-needed basis 

Qualifications and Candidate Background

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Undergraduate degree with a strong record of academic achievement
  • 2-4 years of experience with exposure to private equity, investment banking or management / financial consulting
  • Self-starter with strong critical thinking, quantitative and analytical skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills; ability to articulate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely  
  • Outstanding project management skills and ability to work simultaneously on several transactions and/or projects under tight deadlines
  • Strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, professional demeanor and high degree of integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiatives and to work effectively within a small team
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and ability to work with data sources
